A Short Brief About Ananthapur Parish Ministry

South Parish - Anantapursouth Mission, SFS Church, was initiated in the year 1970 by Rev. Fr. Devasia Kuzhupl. Vast area was entrusted with msfs, places like Dharmavarma, Kadiri, Penugonda and Hindupur Taluks were entrusted with msfs. In 1975 Bishop Rajappa late, erected a new parish called Anantapur South. C.N Kota was detached from P. yaleru Parish and added to Anantapur South parish. And Rev. Fr. Devasia Kuzhupl was officially appointed as parish priest. After 1991 Fr. Thomas Anikala built the new parish church in anatapur south parish. It has two sub-stations namely: Buckacherla and Rudrampeta.

L.R.G School - L.R.G. English medium school is one of the leading institutions of Anantapur, in the Rayalaseema Region of Andhra Pradesh. An English medium school was started by some of the leading citizens of the town in 1963 at Anantapur. In 1967 the Catholic diocese of Kurnool was established and the district of Anantapur was within the new diocese. Soon circumstances favoured and talks started to entrust the L.R.G. School to the Catholic Church, with only one condition that the name L.R.G. should be kept. Bishop Rajappa appointed Mgr. P. Jacob, his Vicar General as correspondent of the school, who began to stay near the hostel, in one of the teachers’ quarters. He took charge of the hostel also.

In 1969 Fr. Mathew Nadackal MSFS jointed the L.R.G. School as principal, after his retirement.

In 1971 Fr. Devasia Kuzhupil went to Anantapur, in the same year Bishop Rajappa made an agreement with M.S.F.S. Accordingly L.R.G. School was handed over to the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales of Visakhapatnam Province for administration. Henceforth the progress of the school was rapid. More M.S.F.S. Personnel joined the staff of the school in the succeeding years. The vast play ground was levelled. The school staff and parents should be very grateful to Fr. Mathew Nadackal for making L.R.G. School a grand –in- aid institutions, which gives full benefits to all concerned. In successive years many more improvements were effected. Trees were planted in the desert like area to make the surroundings of the school more beautiful. Temporary sheds were removed and new buildings were constructed and the existing school buildings were remodelled giving more accommodation for students and facilities for the staff. Now there are 3 buses for the convenience of the students from the town. In 1984 Bishop Rajappa of Kurnool gave away the management of the school to the M.S.F.S. Thus the L.R.G. School now totally belongs to MSFS.

Vinayakumar Telugu Medium School - Vinayakumar Telugu Medium School is the brain child of Fr .Mathew Nadackal. He was the visible and invisible head of L.R.G. English Medium School from 1970-1978. He was convinced that an English Medium School alone does not give credit to a Missionary society, because of its inaccessibility for the poor people and especially for Catholics who often belong to low income group. Fr. Mathew Nadackal was bent upon to start a Telugu medium High School for the benefit of the poor and especially for the Catholics. Fr. Devasia Kuzhupil constructed the school building of Vinayakumar in 1976-1977 on the seed farm land of the government. Thus the Vinayakumar Telugu Medium School got its own building. It is a real blessing for the local people of Anantapur and especially for Catholics. To improve the standard, private classes from 1st to 5th were started charging fees as tuition classes. The recognized classes are only from Six to Tenth. The M.S.F.S. started the Vinayakumar School but the Bishop of Kurnool was kept as Manager. But in 1984 Bishop Rajappa of Kurnool gave the management to M.S.F.S. Fr. K.P. Mathew, the first headmaster got a bus for the convenience of the town children. Fr. K.P. Mathew was the first head master of the school. Fr. K.V. Joseph as headmaster made compound walls for the school and made the property safe. It is one of the efficient schools of Anantapur. Already there are many vocations for priesthood from the school.
